The replacement building for the previously damaged Holyfield House was designed by Architects BHM from Barnes SW London, the Boarding House was designed to provide 33 single en-suite bedrooms, 8 double en-suite bedrooms and extra communal accommodation for pupils and staff from across the school.
Working closely with both the Architects and the client EH Smith proposed a bespoke blend of Bricks that called for a change in the ratio of the standard production to achieve a far higher proportion of the darker Red Bricks, with the randomly added Dark Brick included to compliment and match the surrounding buildings, these Bricks were then coupled with a Handmade Clay tile in two distant bands produced from the same works, allowing the Brickwork and Roof to complement each other through the naturally produced tones of these traditionally fired Clay products.
The close working relationship we have with EH Smith allows us to engage them at the very earliest of stages when considering facade materials for new projects, allowing us to explore an extensive variety of options to meet our own demands for quality materials across all our designs, this partnership also means we are able to confirm budget costs for materials in advance of the tendering process giving us and the client clarity of costs and budgetary control in advance of the tendering process.
The final choice of materials for Felsted complimented the surrounding buildings and met the clients exacting standards which included the need for a bespoke Blend of Bricks to compliment the surrounding buildings, as allways EH Smith knowledge and expertise has been instrumental in helping achieve our aspirations of the project.
